A condition included with the request no longer matches the resource's current state. The precondition prevented the operation from applying against stale or unexpected data.

## Troubleshooting [#troubleshooting]

Read the resource again and compare its current version or other documented condition with the value sent in the request. Identify changes made since that value was obtained, then reconcile them with the change you intended. Do not remove the precondition simply to force the update; it protects against overwriting newer data.

## Retry safely [#retry-safely]

Build a new request using the current condition specified by the endpoint documentation and submit it once. If the condition fails again, another update may be occurring; reread and reconcile before trying again.

## If the problem persists [#if-the-problem-persists]
